I saw this recipe at http://www.kamalascorner.com/2011/12/senai-yam-tawa-fry.html. I
remember during my college days my friend used to bring this for curd rice and we take this from her and let her eat curd rice alone :-). I normally do Yam fry in different way. My kids are used to it. So not sure whether they will like it so I decide to try it out with smaller qty first. In the end it all of us loved it
Ingredients
Senai (Yam) – 1 big piece
Red chilli powder – 1 teaspoon
Turmeric powder – 1/4 teaspoon
Asafotida Powder – two pinches
Thick Tamarind juice – 1 or 2 teaspoons
Salt – 1 teaspoon or as per taste
Oil – 4 to 5 teaspoons
In a plate put red chilli powder, turmeric powder, asafotida, salt and tamarind juice. Mix well and make a paste if necessary adding little water. To this gently place the cooked yam pieces and coat it with the paste.
Heat a Tawa (preferably a thick “Dosai Kal”) and grease it with little oil. Take the masala coated yam pieces and arrange it on the tawa in single layer. Pour little oil around the pieces and cook on medium flame for few seconds. Turn each piece separately and cook other side also. Then again turn it and cook. Repeat this till both the sides are fried well and it become golden brown.
