Sweet Rice (Inippu Arisi) Appam / Paniyaram

My In laws were in town. So taking excuses to do snack as my FIL likes snacks during tea time. Even though I like Banana as a fruit I don’t like it in dishes or snacks like Appam, Chapathi etc.. As we were chatting my Mother in law was talking about appam and said we can do without banana. I was so excited about it and wanted to do it immediately. It came out well and everyone at home liked it too.

Ingredients

  • Raw rice – 1 cup
  • Jaggery (roughly chopped) – half cup
  • Aval (puffed rice) – 1 tablespoon
  • Oats Flour – 2 – 3 tablespoon
  • Cardamom Powder – 1 teaspoon
  • Salt – pinch
  • Ghee – 2 teaspoon
  • Oil – for frying
Method:

Wash and Soak raw rice for one hour. Soak Aval for 30 mins.
Drain and grind coarsely  in a mixer-grinder like rava.
Add jaggery, salt and grind for few seconds (if needed add little water).
In a separate vessel take Oats Flour and Cardamom powder mix well
Add this to the grinded rice and aval dough and make sure mix well.
Heat oil and Ghee (every time before putting dough add few drops of oil and half a drop of ghee in each spot and pour dough) in Kuzhi paniyaram pan and fry them until golden brown
Enjoy the snack this will go well for tea time. It stays good for about 4 days in fridge
