Puffed Rice balls / Pori Urundai

Pori Urundai008

During my school days this used to be one of regular after school snack. It is light and easy to do. However I  love Peanut so every time I want to make sweet ball I will go for peanut ball as that is preffered over any other sweet. This time I make it a point to make for Karthigai Deepam. It came out pretty good

Ingredients
Puffed Rice (Pori) – 3 Cup
Jaggery – 1/2 Cup
Water as required  (I have used 3/4 cup)
Caradamom powder – .5 teaspoon ( I love Caradamom.. so I use bit
more. You can reduce it if you prefer less or you can omit this completely)
Rice Flour – 1 tablespoon

Method:
Pori Urundai009Clean Puffed Rice. And keep it aside. Make sure you use
crispy and fresh puffed rice. If it is soft keep it in hot sun for 1 to 2 hours

Melt the Jaggery in water and drain to remove the impurity.
Bring back the drained jaggery and caradamom powder to the medium flame.
Boil till it is in ball consistency.

Consistency check : Take water in seperate
bowl. Take a drop of jaggery syrup and put it in water, it should stand firm
and should not dissolve as. It should form a slightly hard ball when you roll
it with your fingers and see. When this consistency is reached, It is ready.

In a broader vessel take the puffed rice and mix in Jaggery
syrup. Mix it well. Apply rice flour on your hand and make a ball (according to
your prefferd size). When it is ok to handle and press it well to make it as
tight ball
