This recipe I discovered by chance. I had some left over idyappam dough and wondering what to do. I was thinking of doing kolukattai. Dough was bit dry and couldn’t make it into normal kolukattai covering. So I just added sugar, coconut and peanut powder and made it as pidi kolukattai. It was super duper hit. My first son who was not a big fan of sugar base Indian sweet loved it too. So here you go with the recipe
Ingredients :
Coarse Peanut powder – 2-4 tablespoon (I had store brought powder if don’t have just powder the roasted peanut)
Salt a pinch
Method:
Make them in to a soft dough (Adjust water accordingly. The dough should be like smooth chapathi dough). ( I have done the flour in 2 batches). Cover it with wet cloth till you need it
Add Sugar, peanut, salt, grated coconut and mix well. Take a lemon size ball and flatten it with finger to get the shape. Steam it in idli cooker till it is cooked
Serve hot. It tastes good next day too

Good use of the leftover dough. Just like you, I don't like wasting. Its a fabulous sweet, my fav and eat loads of it when mum used to make for us when I was younger. Now completely forgotten and its time to make at home. Missing the taste. Peanuts are great into the kolukattai.
