Cabbage Vada – Cabbage urad dhal vada

My kids love the urad dhal vada .. This time when I was in India I had this cabbage vada at my cousin’s house. My kids loved it. I have taken down the recipe from her. So tasty vada with small twist to traditional medu vadai. My son really love this because in this I have replaced Onion with Cabbage. Enjoy
Ingredients
Urad Dhal / urad dal – 1 cup
Finely chopped cabbage – 1.5 cup
Ginger – 1 inch piece
Curry leaves – 10
Salt to taste
Asafoetida powder – pinch
Green chillies – 2
Pepper Corns – 10
Oil for deep frying
Coriander leaves – 1 tablespoon (Finely chopped)
Mint leaves – 1 teaspoon (Finely chopped)
Raw rice – 1 tablespoon

Method:

Wash and Soak the Urad dhal & rice for 2-3 hours. Drain the water and leave it for 30 mins. Grind it together with ginger, green chillies, pepper corn and very little water. Add a tablespoon of water at time and scrap the sides if needed. Add salt, coriander leaves, Curry leaves, Mint leaves and cabbage mix well.

Heat curved pan and add oil. When oil is hot Wet your hands and make a smooth ball, flatten it on a wet cloth or banana leaf and make a hole in the middle using your thumb. Drop carefully in hot oil. Let it cook in medium flame till all the sides are cooked or browned (make sure flame is at medium). Once cooked drain the extra oil and take out the vada. Leave it on kitchen tissue paper to drain the extra oil.

Repeat the process till all the batter is done. Enjoy it with your favourite chutney or sambar
