Dal Palak / Spinach with Dal / Dhal palak

Everytime when I buy palak my son asks for palak paneer. However after starting this blog I have posted many different items with palak. I wanted to try this healthy and simple comforting dal palak. It goes well with either rice or chappathi / roti / chapathi. It is also good dish to make when you feel like not spending long hours at kitchen (most of the time I feel that way :-))
Ingredients:
Spinach / Palak – 2 cups (I used one bunch and remove the stem and cut the leaves into smaller chunks)
Cumin seeds – 1.5 teaspoon
Green Chillies – 2
Onion – 1 finely chopped
Ginger – 1 inch finely chopped
Garlic – 7 finely chopped
Dry mango powder / amchur powder – 3/4 teaspoon
Garam masala – 1 teaspoon
Salt per taste
Turmeric powder – 1/4 teaspoon
Moong Dal (Dhal) – 1/2 Cup
Thuvar (thoor) dal (Dhal) – 1/4 cup
Oil -1 teaspoon
Garlic – 2 pods (Fry in a 1/2 teaspoon of oil for garnnishing)
few shredded ginger for garnishing

Method:

Pressure cook the dhals with turmeric powder, salt and enough water. Keep it aside. Heat the kada and heat the oil. Add cumin seeds. when it start to crackle add ginger, garlic, slited green chillies and fry for 40 sec. Add Onion and bit of salt. Fry till Onion is cooked or slight brown color

Add cooked dhal, Garam masala, dry mango powder, salt and cook with weight on for one whistle. When pressure released, open the lid and add chopped palak and let it cook. Palak gets cooked fast. Mine got done in 5 mins. Switch it off

Garnish it with fried garlic and ginger.Serve hot with Roi / Chapathi / Rice

Spinach and dhal is a great combo. Its oozing with much of the flavors we all at home will love. Both, the spinach is like an ever day available veg at my place and there's always stock at home. The welcomed dish for our rice.
