When I was browsing thro’ net I saw this which is very interesting because of the addition of oats. Normally I just with cooked moong dhal. Once I tried with this and everyone loved it. so these days this is our regular way of making plantain stem. Ingredients:
Plantain stem (chopped) – 2 cups
Turmeric powder – 1/4 teaspoon
Oats – 3 tablespoon
Curry leaves – 5 leaves
Sambar powder – 1 teaspoon (adjust to your spice level)
Salt (to taste)
Oil – 1 teaspoon
Mustard seeds – ½ teasoon.
Cumin seeds – ¼ teaspoon.
Urad dal – ½ teaspoon.
Method:
Mix 3 Cup of water with 1/4 cup of buttermilk. Add the chopped plantain stems in the buttermilk water.
Heat kada and when it is hot add oil. When Oil is hot add mustard seeds, cumin seeds. when it start to pops add urad dhal and fry tiil it is brown in color.
Drain the water from plantain stem and add to the kada with curry leaves, turmeric powder,Salt and mix well. Close with lid till it is 3/4th cooked..Add sambar powder and oats. Mix well. Reduce the heat and cook till plantain till it is fully cooked.Stir in between.
