Idli Uppuma (Method 2) – Idli Upma

During my college days my mum used to make idli uppuma for evening snack. It is quite filling and it is one dish you can use the same base ingredients but add some different flavour, spice and vegetables to make number of issues. After my kids are born I seldom do this as I prefer the version with plain with lot of small onion but my first son hates onion. Ingredients:
Prepared iddlis – 8 to 10
Oil for seasoning
Mustard seeds – 1 teaspoon
Urud dhal – 1 tablespoon
Bengal Gram Dhal (Channa Dhal) – 1 tablespoon
Red chillis – 3 – crushed/boken into two
Turmeric powder – 1/4teaspoon
Asafetida powder – one pinch
Curry leaves – 1 sprig
Small Onion – chopped 3/4 cup
Salt as required

Method:

Make small chunks out of the idlis. The best way is to use the finger tips and crush it into small pieces. 
Heat oil in a kadai. Add the mustard seeds. when it sputters, add the urud dhal and Bengal gram dhal. Fry till it is brown.
When it turns light brown, Add the red chillis, curry leaves. Fry for 20 sec

Add Salt and Turmeric powder and asafetida
Now stir in the idli chunks until even distribution.
