Manathakkaali Keerai Kootu

During my school days we used to have this in our backyard. I love the fruits of it. Since it is just in our backyard and healthy my mum used to do this very often. Of all the keerai I love this one most. This is also part of my diet when I was going thro’ it. In Singapore you get this if you go to serangoon road (little India). 


Ingredients:
Manathakkaali Keerai – 1 bunch

Green Gram Dhal – ½ cup
Dry Red chillies – 2
Cumin Seeds– 1 teaspoon
Turmeric Power – a pinch
Salt – ½ teaspoon or as per tasteOil – 1 teaspoon
Mustard – ½ teaspoon
Onion – 2 tablespoon (finely chopped)

Grated coconut – 2 tablespoon (optional)
Oil – 2 teaspoon

Method:
Remove the leaves from the stem (stem should not be used )
Wash and chop the greens.
Cook the green gram dhal along with turmeric till soft. Add the greens to cooked dhal and cook on low flame.
Heat the Kada and add Oil to it
When Oil is hot add Mustard Seed and when it start to splutter add  chopped chopped onion and dry chillies. Fry for 2 mins
Add this to keerai and mix well
Add Grated coconut and mix well ( I didn’t use Coconut)
