Podalangai (Snakegourd) Peanut Poriyal

This weekend we went to serangoon road as kids wanted to have Indian food from Bombay woodlands. Even though I have couple of Indian shops near by our house there are some vegetables we get only in Serangoon like Senakilangu, spengkilangu, Drumstick leaves, snakegourd etc..
So we buy these indian vegetable whenever we are in Serangoon


Ingredients:

  • Chopped Pudalankai – 5 cup 
  • Moong Dhal – 1/3 cup
  • Red Chillies – 3 ( I use Red Chillies in green vege so that kids can notice it) if you prefer Green you can use it also
  • Mustard Seeds – 1/2 teaspoon
  • Urad Dhal – 2 teaspoon
  • Finely chopped Onion – 1 tablespoon
  • Curry leaves – 1 string
  • Peanut – 2 tablespoon
  • Peanut powder for decoration
  • Grated Coconut – 1 tablespoon (Optional) I don’t use it
  • Salt to taste

Method:
Chopping Pudalankai: Cut the pudalankai lengthwise and remove the seeds and inner white parts. Slice it into thin half circles.
In a kadai put one teaspoon oil and when it is hot add half teaspoon mustard.
When it start to splutter add urad dhal, Red Chillies and fry it till urad dhal is brown
Add Curry leaves and Moong Dhal
Add water just to cover the dhal with salt
Let the Dhal to get cooked (1/2th only). You can close the Kadai
Add Pudalankai and cook it with lid closed. if you are using Coconut, once cooked add grated coconut and mix for 10 sec
Add 2 tablespoon of Peanut
Transfer to serving dish
