Beans Poriyal

When I went for my weekly Vegetables shopping I saw this broad beans. I was asking about this to shop owner. She told me this just the same as french beans but more crisper and bit of sweetness. I decided to give it a try and did the Poriyal in the same way as french beans


Ingredients:

  • Beans – 400g 
  • Moong Dhal – 1/3 cup
  • Red Chillies – 3 ( I use Red Chillies in green vege so that kids can notice it) if you prefer Green you can use it also
  • Mustard Seeds – 1/2 teaspoon
  • Urad Dhal – 2 teaspoon
  • Finely chopped Onion – 1 tablespoon
  • Curry leaves – 1 string
  • Grated Coconut – 1 tablespoon (Optional) I don’t use it
  • Salt to taste

Method:

  • Wash and cut the beans into small pieces. (if you it cross it will look nice)
  • In a kadai put one teaspoon oil and when it is hot add half teaspoon mustard.
  • When it start to splutter add urad dhal, Red Chillies and fry it till urad dhal is brown
  • Add Curry leaves and Moong Dhal
  • Add water just to cover the dhal with salt
  • Let the Dhal to get cooked (1/2th only). You can close the Kadai
  • add Beans and cook it with lid closed. if you are using Coconut, once cooked add grated coconut and mix for 10 sec
  • Transfer to serving dish
