Fried Modak recipe – talniche modak- fried modak – Fry modak recipe – Pooja Recipes – Ganesh Chaturthi recipes

I tried this at my friend’s place a few years ago! It is new to me as my mum makes only steam kolukattai / Kozhukattai / Modak. Normally she does it with coconut or Bengal gram dhal stuffing. when it was served at first I thought it is fried momo. Then only I realized it is modak. I loved the combo of sweet coconut stuffing with a crispy outside. I have tried wheat flour too but I prefer all-purpose flour for this. If you are against having all-purpose flour you can try with wheat flour

Ingredients:

For Outer cover

All-purpose flour – 1/2 cup
Semolina / rava – 1 tablespoon
salt to taste
Ghee – 1 tablespoon (hot melted)

Mixed nuts – 2 tablespoons (I have used cashew, almond)
Cardamom powder – 1/2 teaspoon
Jaggery – 2 tablespoon
Ghee – 1/2 teaspoon

Others:
Oil for deep frying

Method:

Heat a pan and add butter. Add nuts and fry till brown in color. Add coconut, Jaggery, and mix well. Continue to cook till dry

Add cardamom powder and mix well. Switch it off. Let it cool down

Once all ready, roll the dough into medium-thick circle dust with maida / all-purpose flour if needed.

Using lid cut into required round size disc. Place stuffing.

Bring all the sides together to form Modak make sure all sides are covered. Repeat till all modak done

Heat oil for deep frying. Once the oil is hot add modak carefully and fry till all sides are browned. once done remove it from oil by draining extra oil.
