Tomato butter murukku is another version of murukku which you can try at home. This is nice variation to regular murukku. Tomato give nice tangy flavour to the murukku. We loved it. It disappeared in no time. I have added garlic to give nice flavour (everyone in our family likes garlic) don’t miss out garlic it really gives nice flavour. I have added red chili while grinding tomato but you can use red chili powder. Do try out this version for this festive season
Ingredients
Rice flour / Idiyappam flour – 500g (Mine is salted flour)
Tomatoes -2 medium size
Garlic – 5 pods
Red chili – 3-5 (adjust to your spice level)
butter – 1.5 tablespoon
hing – 1/8 teaspoon
salt to taste
Roasted garam dal powder – 1/2 cup
oil to fry
Method:
Grind tomatoes, garlic and red chilli into smooth paste
In a broader vessel add rice flour, salt, grounded paste, butter, roasted garam flour. Mix well. Add water little by little and make smooth dough
Take your favourite mold and stuff the dough
heat oil for deep fry. Press murukku directly to hot oil (be careful)
cook it till “shhh” sound goes off. Turn in between so that all side get cooked evenly
once done remove it from oil. Place it in kitchen tissue to drain extra oil
Store it in air tight container. Enjoy
