These days whenever I visit India someone will bring lunch for me (yeah I got bored with food we get around our office). I get to taste a different varieties of food this way. Knowing I am a food blogger they also give me a recipe to go with it. I have tasted this sambar from one of my colleague I loved the flavour of it. He said this is one of the simple & quick recipes. Even bachelors can do this. I have done without any vegetable you can try this with your favourite vegetable too
Ingredients:
Toor dal – 1/2 cup
red chilies – 4-6
Asafoetida – 1/2 teaspoon
Sambar vadagam – 1 teaspoon
small onion / shallots – 10
Tomatoes – 1 (chopped finely)
turmeric powder – 1/2 teaspoon
Salt to taste
Tamarind – 1 big marble size
curry leaves – 10
Mustard seeds – 1/2 teaspoon
Oil – 1 teaspoon
Method
Dry roast dal and chilies.
Add water, onion, tomatoes, tamarind and turmeric powder. Cook till 2-4 whistles
Heat oil in a pan add mustard seeds let it pop. Add asafoetida, curry leaves, sambar vadagam.
Switch off and serve hot!
