Goan Sanna Idli | Mangalorean Idlis Recipe | Goan Steamed Rice Cake Recipe By Veena Theagarajan

This is new dish which I saw in one of TV program. Sounded more like Appam or Idiyappam. Both are my family favourite. So I have bookmarked it. Finally I made it few weeks ago. I have used ramekins to make this idli. If you don’t have those you can use any silver cup similar to ramekins you can grease your vessel and pour the batter. some of the recipes I saw in the net uses yeast since I am not a big fan of yeast I have decided to use normal fermented batter. So this recipe may not be traditional way of making Sanna but I loved the texture and taste so this is definite keep recipe
Ingredients

Idli rice / Par boiled rice – 1.75 cups
urad dal – 1/2 cup
Coconut milk – 3/4 cup
salt to taste
Sugar – 1 tablespoon

Method:

Wask and soak rice and dal separately for 5-7 hrs

Grind urad dal till it is fluffy. Remove it. Grind rice little coarse. Add back urad dal batter and salt.
Grind for few mins. remove it.

Let it ferment overnight or till it Fermented (For some people Fermentation is fast so take care)Mix in sugar, coconut milk

Gently mix it. Grease ramekins and pour batter.

Arrange it in steamer and cook till inserted toothpick comes out clean

Remove it from steamer & using knife loosen the sides and remove the idli

I have been eyeing sanna for a long time too… I love your idea of making them in ramekins, at least don't have to run around for steel pans and can make in what we have… Looks really soft…
