General Tso’s Chickpeas – Chickpea recipe – Lunch, Dinner recipe – Vegan Side dish



I got attracted by this dish thro’ it’s name after that when I searched for recipe I found a lot of beautiful pics. I have bookmarked this for quite sometime. However i had lunch at one of vegan restaurant last week I saw this in the menu and ordered it .. It is quite different from regular Channa masala we do. it is done mostly with chinese spices. It is quite a good alternative. you can serve this with steamed rice or have it as starter as I do..
Ingredients



For Chickpea marination


Cooked chickpea – 1 cup
Soya sauce – 2 tablespoon


For Sauce:


Soya sauce – 3 tablespoon
brown sugar – 1 tablespoon
Vegetable stock – 6 tablespoon
Sesame oil – 1 teaspoon
Rice vinegar – 1 tablespoon
Peanut butter – 1/2 tablespoon


For final assembly


Sesame oil – 2 teaspoon
Garlic – 4 pods (finely chopped)
Ginger paste – 1/2 teaspoon
Onion – 1 medium size (finely chopped)
Red chillies – 2 to 4 (adjust to your spice level)
White part of scallion (spring onion) – 1 teaspoon
Green spring onion – 1 tablespoon (finely chopped)
Corn starch – 1 teaspoon (mix it in water)
Red bell pepper – 1/2 (optional)
Chilli flake – 1/2 teaspoon (optional)
Salt to taste



Method:


Marinate Chickpea in soya sauce for 30 mins. mix in with Corn flour and water

Mix in all the ingredients under sauce and keep it aside for 30 mins. Heat oil add garlic, red chillies and fry till slight brown add Onion, white part of spring onion and fry till transparent. Add ginger paste fry for 30 sec

Add sliced red bell pepper if using and fry for a min. Add sauce. let it thicken a bit

Add Corn starch paste, Mix well. Now add marinated chickpea mix well fry till desired thickness

Add Red chilli flakes. Continue to cook. Add spring onion and switch it off

Serve it with steamed rice or as snack

    unique name..but the gravy looks tempting..yummy with some bhaturas.
    btw, did you first pressure cook the chick peas or directly cook over stove top with sauces?
