I love any dish in Chaat style. It gives nice blend of flavour. This is dish new to me. This is one of the most famous Sindhi breakfast. I saw this recipe in very few blogs. I made this for my kids as an after school snack. The crispy & tasty deep fried puri/ flat bread served with simple yet very flavorful daal. you will be surprised with the combo if you haven’t try do so. It is very addictive and you won’t be able to stop till it gets over. I have used all purpose flour. You can try with Atta too
Ingredients:
For Puri (Pakwan)
All purpose flour – 1 cup
Salt to taste
Cumin seeds – 1 teaspoon
Oil – 2 teaspoon
Oil for deep frying
Method:
Bring all the ingredients in a bowl excep oil for deep frying. Add water and make into tight smooth dough. Keep it aside for 30 mins
Take a small equal size balls. Roll into thin disc.Use fork to make prick all over. This will prevent the pakwan from fluffing up. Heat oil in pan for frying. place the rolled out pakwan.
Once cooked turn it over and cook again till bubbles subsides. Drain the extra oil and take it out and place it in kitchen tissue to drain extra oil.Repeat the process till all the pakwans are done
Pakwan is ready
Ingredients:
For Dal
Channa dal / Split bengal gram dal – 1/2 cup
Turmeric powder – 1/2 teaspoon
Salt tot aste
Oil / Ghee – 1 tablespoon
cumin seeds – 2 teaspoons
Red chilli powder – 1 /2 teaspoon (adjust to spice level)
Asafoetida/ Hing – 1/4 teaspoon
For serving
Onion – 1/2 (chopped finely)
Sweet chutney to taste
Green chutney to taste
Coriander leaves – 1 tablespoon (finely chopped)
Method
Wash and soak dal for 1 hr. Cook it with salt and turmeric powder.
Mash slightly. Keep it aside.
Heat oil and add cumin seeds Let it crackle. Reduce the flame completely add chilli powder, hing and fry for 5 sec. Switch it off. Add this to cooked dal
Transfer to serving bowl. Add chutneys, Onion and coriander leaves
Enjoy this addictive breakfast, brunch or snack
