Mango Rasam Recipe | Raw Mango Soup Recipe | Mango Soup Recipes By Veena Theagarajan

Mango charu (Mango rasam) is a real treat for mango lovers like me. I love anything with Mango whether it is be raw mango or ripened one. So this time of the year is a real treat for me. Even though in Singapore you get mango almost all days I prefer this Indian Mango season and the types you get it during this period. My mum has one mango tree & and during this season I do get some from her. Original recipe from her doesn’t require any dal (toor dal) but I wanted to add 1 tablespoon of cooked dal and dal water. It came out very nice. I have roasted cumin, pepper and garlic in ghee. But you can dry roast it too
Ingredients

Raw mango – 1
Small onion – 5
cooked Dal – 1 tablespoon + 1 cup dal water
cumin seeds – 1 teaspoon
Pepper powder – 1/2 teaspoon
Green chillies – 2-3 (Adjust to spice level)
Ghee – 1/2 teaspoon + 1/2 teaspoon
Mustards seeds – 1/2 teaspoon
Cumin seeds – 1 teaspoon
Red chillies – 1
Hing / Asafoetida – 1 generous pinch
curry leaves – 10
Jaggery – 1 teaspoon
Coriander leaves – 1 tablespoon

Method:

Peel skin of the mango and slice it.

Pressure cook mango with salt till 3 whistle (don’t add any water to mango).

Once cooked mash it. Keep it aside

Heat a pain with 1/2 reaspoon of ghee. Add 1 teaspoon Cumin seeds, pepper and 2 green chillies. Fry till it cracks. Let it cool down.

Grind to fine powder. Heat pan with 1/2 teaspoon of ghee.. Add Mustard seeds, cumin seeds. Let it crackle. Red chillies, Hing and curry leaves. Fry for 10 sec. Add sliced onion Fry for a min.

Add mashed raw mango, Dal, dal water. Boil for a min. Add Jaggery

Add required salt, grinded powder. Let it boil. Add Chopped coriander leaves.

Switch it off and enjoy

I love rasam varieties. This mango season I also wanted to make this but somehow missed it. Now the mango season is almost over.
