Murukku!! Our family’s all time favourite snack. My kids have the habit of having snacks with lunch esp on weekends. They need some crunchy side dish even if you have 2 vegetables. So Whenever they have school break I make Murukku.. Since My first son doesn’t like Onion I try to sneak it in his favourite dish. I wanted to try this Onion / Shallots murukku for quite sometime. But was hesitating because of my first son (as it is his least favourite dish) finally I made this. To make it more attractive I made cute little bite size murukku.
Ingredients:
Idli rice – 3 cup
Red chillies – 4-6
Small onion – 1 cup (slice them thinly)
Butter – 2 tablespoon
Salt to taste
Pottukadalai / Roasted gram powder – 1/2 cup
Roasted sesame seeds – 2 teaspoon
asafoetida – 2 pinch
Oil for deep frying
Method:
Wash and soak Idli rice, Red chillies for 4-6 hrs. Drain the extra water and grind it in Grinder or food processor
Add Onion (I have chopped it before adding but the pic is in full ), Salt. Make sure you grind it to thick paste
Add roasted gram powder, sesame seeds, asafoetida and butter. Make a smooth non sticky dough.
Take murkku presser and place your favourite plate. I have used single hole star plate
Press it on to tissue paper (do it in your favourite size or shape)
Heat oil in deep curved pan. Take the pressed murukku using flat spoon and place it in hot oil one by one. Cook it in medium flame till it is cooked. When it is cooked bubble will ceases. Drain the extra oil and place it on kitchen tissue paper for draining extra oil. Repeat the process
Store it in Air tight container
Enjoy

Onions ought to be firm and strong, substantial to the hand. There ought to be no delicate or soft parts.voordelen uien
