Aval / Poha / Beaten rice Puttu – Easy Gokulashtami Recipes – Festival recipe – Simple Pooja recipes – Simple Festivals recipe – Simple naivedyam recipes

I love anything to do with Aval (Probably you can see that from the count of recipes on this blog). Aval kesari, Aval Sweet Pongal, Sweet Aval, Aval Kheer/Payasam the list goes on. I love puttu. It is a light and perfect snack for the kids. It is simple naivedyam recipe. If the festival falls on a working day and you have little time to do anything this would be a perfect choice. I had this recipe from one of my friends.
Ingredients:

Aval(Poha) – 1 cup
Grated Coconut – 3 tablespoon
Jaggery – 1/2 cup
Coconut – 2 tbsp
Cashews – 1 tablespoon
Cardamom powder – 1/4 tsp
Ghee – 1 tablespoon

Roasted sesame seeds – 1 tablespoon
Salt – a pinch
Water – 1/2 cup(for jaggery syrup) + as required(for cooking poha)

Method:
Dry roast poha  until nice aroma released and Aval is crisp. Let it cool down. Grind to fine rava consistency.

Roast grated coconut and set aside.(you see more here as I have roasted for puttu and seedai together)

Take the jaggery and 1/2 cup of water. Heat till it is melted. Strain to remove the impurities. Return back the the fire and cook it till soft ball consistency.

Add 1 teaspoon of Ghee. Fry the cashew till brown in color. Add powdered Aval and 1/2 cup of water. And mix well. Cook it with lid on for 3-5 mins (make sure it is not mushy).  Add jaggery syrup

Add roasted coconut, Cardamom powder, Sesame seeds and Cashews. Mix well.  Now it is ready to be used as naivedyam.

Enjoy it
