I love pesarattu. Normally I do pesarattu with moong dhal and chana dhal. It comes out very crispy. My mum does it with equal portion of rice and green gram dhal. So I wanted to try the same propotion with Varagu / Kodo millet. The pesarattu was very tasty and everyone in the family loved it. It is a perfect after school snack or dinner or breakfast. This doesn’t require any fermenting also
Ingredients
Kodo millet – 1.5 cup
Green gram dhal / whole green moong dhal – 1.5 cup
Urad dhal – 2 tablespoon ( I have used dhal with skin)
Salt to taste
Pepper – 1 teaspoon
Green chillies – 2
Curry leaves – 10
Cumin seeds – 1 teaspoon
Ginger – 1 inch
Oil for cooking pesarattu
Onion – 1 (chopped finely)
Method:
Wash and Soak millet and green gram dhal for 4 – 6 hours.
Grind it to smooth batter with rest of the ingredients other than Onion. Mix in onion
Mix in onion. Heat flat tawa and when it is hot pour laddle full of batter and spread it to make a dosa. Sprinkle oil around it and cook it.
Once cooked turn it and cook it on the other side. Fold it
Serve hot with your favourite chutney
