Samai Upma | Little Millet Upma | Healthy Breakfast Recipe

Yet another recipe with Millets. If you have difficulties to get your kids to eat millets this is one of simple and tasty option. For me it tasted almost rice upma.. Also with loads of vegetables it is really well balanced meal for the family. I try to use millet in Kichadi, upma or dosa. Normally it is easier to blend millet in these dishes and very little if not no chance of going wrong.. Try it out and enjoy Millet
Ingredients


Samai / Little millet – 1 cup
Water – 3 cups
Mixed vegetables – 1 cup to 1.5 cups ( I wanted to have more vegetables. I have used Beans and carrot)
Onion – 1 (sliced thinly)
Mustard seeds – 1/2 teaspoon
Urad dhal – 1 teaspoon
Bengal gram dhal – 1 teaspoon
Green chilles – 3 to 4 (adjust to your spice level)
Curry leaves – 10
Coriander leaves – 1 tablespoon
Salt to taste
Oil – 2 teaspoon



Method:


Wash and soak Little millet for 15 mins. Heat the pan and add oil. When it is hot add mustard seeds and let it pop. Add curry leaves, green chillies, urad dhal and bengal gram dhal and fry till it is brown in color. Add onion and fry till transparent. Add vegetables and fry for 30 sec. 

 Add water and salt. Let it boil. Now add soaked little millet. Mix well

Close the lid and cook till water evaporates. Add coriander leaves and mix well

Serve hot.
