Kollu Vada – naivedyam recipe – Pooja Recipes

I love kollu. It is so good for health. To maintain your health and weight Kollu should be included as part of the diet at least twice a week. I do lot of stuff with it. It helps to keep your cholesterol under control too. I did a deep fired version for my kids and  a baked version for myself. Both tasted nice

Ingredients:

Kollu / Horsegram –  1.5 cup
Rice – 2 tablespoon
Onion – 2 tablespoon, finely chopped
Garlic – 2 pods (chopped finely)
Cumin seeds – 1/4 teaspoon
Curry leaves – 2 strings
Coriander leaves – 1 string
Asafoetida – a pinch
Green chilli – 3 nos, finely chopped (Adjust to your spice level)
Ginger – 1 inch, finely chopped
Salt – to taste
Oil – for deep frying

Method:

Soak kollu and in enough water for 3 hours. After 3 hours, drain the water completely. Leave it for 30 mins

Grind the kollu / rice / ginger/ garlic, cumin seeds, Green chillies coarsely without adding water. Transfer the ground kollu to a bowl. Add chopped onion, curry leaves, coriander leaves, asafoetida, and salt to the ground kollu. Mix it well. Heat oil in the pan.

When oil is hot take a small lemon size ball and flatten between plams to make small patties. Put it in the oil and cook it till both sides are crispy. Make sure you cook it in low medium heat.
Once done, drain the extra oil and take out the vadas. Transfer to the plate covered with paper tissue to absorb the excess oil.

Serve hot with coconut chutney or sweet chutney or any sauce.
