Pepper Idli

I had some left over idlies. Normally if I had any left over I make idli upuma Method 1 or 2nd method with kollu podi or Masala idli with all the masala. I remember having pepper idli at my friends place quite some time ago I tried last week and it tasted good. So tried again this week and this time I was able to take photos. My kids love this version than other versions. This can be good after school snack.
Ingredients
Idli – 6 idlis ( Left over)
Cumin seeds – 1 teaspoon
Black pepper corn – 1 teaspoon
Onion  – 1/2 Sliced thinly
Red bell pepper – 1 sliced thinly
Curry leaves – 10-15
Mustard seeds – 1/4 teaspoon
Urad dhal – 1 teaspoon
Bengal Gram dhal / chana dal – 1 teaspoon
Salt  per taste
Spring onion – 1/2 cup finely chopped
Oil – 1 tablespoon



Method
Dry roast Pepper and cumin seeds and using hand pestle powder it coarsely. Keep it aside

Cut the idli into 1/2 inch cube and keep it aside

Heat the kada and add oil. Add Mustard seeds. When it pops add urad dhal and Bengal gram dhal. Fry till they are brown in color. Add curry leaves and onion and fry till they are slight brown color. Add Sliced bell pepper ad fry for another 2-3 mins. Add salt, pepper powder and sliced idli. Mix well and fry for another 5-7 mins. Add Finely chopped Spring onion and mix well. Fry for another 30 sec

Switch off and serve hot

    I always love the tadka idli made with leftover idli more than on the same day. Pepper will be a nice addition to that. 🙂
