Even though I can have Amla in any form my rest of the family is not..So was looking for some recipe which will entice them. Greek yogurt is one of family’s favourite. So I wanted to combine yogurt and Amla and make it as pachadi for variety rice. I made this for Arisi parrupu rice (dhal rice). But this can be done side dish for any variety rice
Ingredients:
Amla / gooseberry / Nellikai – 4 (big version)
Salt to taste
Curry leaves – 10
mustard seeds – 1/4 teaspoon
urad dhal – 1 teaspoon
Green chillies – 2
Coconut – 1/2 cup
Yogurt – 3/4 cup ( I have used greek yogurt. but you can use any homemade yogurt also)
Water – 1/4 cup
Salt to taste
Oil – 1/2 teaspoon
More milagai -2 (If this spicy reduce the green chillies) -Fry it and crush them
Coriander leaves / cilantro – 1 tablespoon (finely chopped)
Method:
Heat the pan and add oil. When it is hot add mustard seeds and let it pop. Add urad dhal, curry leaves and fry till it is brown. Keep it aside. Pressure cook Amla. After it cool down remove the seeds and slice them into small pieces.
Add coconut, green chilies, 1/2 of cooked amla and run mixer for 30 sect. Add yogurt, salt and water. grind to smooth paste. Transfer to serving dish Add reminding Amla, coriander leaves and crushed chillies. Mix well.
Serve immediately or chillied
