Arisi Paruppu Rice -Arisi Paruppu Sadham – Rice and thoor dhal rice

After all fatty food during my holiday I wanted to make simple yet tasty one pot meal for the weekend lunch. My kids love parrupu sadham. So I have decided to try Arisi paruppu sadham. If you are looking for a simple one pot meal which is under 30 mins then this recipe is perfect fit. It is also perfect for kids lunch box
Ingredients

Rice – 1  cups
Tur dal / Thuvaram parrupu / Toor Dhal – 1/2 cups
Onions – 1, large, finely chopped
Tomatoes – 1, medium size, finely chopped
Dry Red chillies – 4 broken into pieces
Ginger / garlic paste – 1 teaspoon
Cinnamon stick – 1 inch
Cloves – 2
Bay leaves – 1
Oil – 1 teaspoon
Curry leaves – 10
Coriander leaves / cilantro – 2 tablespoon, finely chopped
Asafetida- a pinch
Turmeric powder – 1/4 teaspoon


Method:

Wash and soak the dhal for 30 mins. Wash rice and soak it with dhal for another 15 mins. Heat the pressure pan or pan with oil. When Oil is hot add Cinnamon, cloves, bay leaves. Fry for 1 min. Add Onion, curry leaves, red chillies and fry till they are transparent. Add ginger garlic, and tomatoes. And fry till tomatoes are mushy. Add rice and dhal. Fry for 30 sec.

Add 3.5 cup water, Salt and turmeric powder.Mix well.Cook till 2 – 3 whistles.Switch it off. If you are using pan close the lid and cook till rice and dhal fully cooked. Don’t open the lid till it is fully done.Once cool down open the lid and add coriander leaves and mix well.

Serve hot

    looks yumm.. I was planning to make it today morning but somehow changed the plan afterwards. Looking at your clicks I think I will try it tomorrow.
