Aval kara pongal recipe – Avalakki khara pongal – beaten rice pongal – Poha pongal recipe – Pongal recipes

 

For this Pongal, I wanted to post some simple yet very tasty Pongal recipes. I have seen Aval / beaten rice Pongal on one of the restaurant menus. I haven’t tasted it before. I wanted to try this recipe for quite some time. These days I have been ordering red aval Since this is kara Pongal I wanted to try with a white one. Finally, I have ordered white aval during my last weekend’s groceries. Do try out this simple Pongal for your Pongal/ Vrat or Naivedyam. Since Aval is a favorite for Lord Krishna you can make it for gokulashtami or Krishna Janmashtami or Krishna Jayanthi too

Ingredients

Poha / Flattened Rice – 1.5 cup
Split Yellow Moong Dal / Pasi Paruppu – 1/4 cup + 2 tablespoon
Ghee – 1 tablespoon
Water – 2.25 cups
Cashews – 2 tablespoons
Cumin Seeds – 1 teaspoon
Black Pepper – 1 teaspoon
Curry leaves a handful
Green Chilies – 3-4 (chopped. Adjust to your spice level)

 

Method

Cook Moong dal in the pressure cooker till 3 whistles with required water. Keep it aside. 

Dry roast cumin seeds, Peppercorns. Once cool down crush it in hand pestle. Keep it aside

 

Heat 2 teaspoons of ghee in a pan. Add poha. Roast them till it puffs up. Add water and salt. 

 

 

Cook it by closing the lid. Once cooked add cooked dal mix well. cook for another 3-4 mins on low flame. Keep it aside

 

 

Heat rest of ghee in a pan Add cashew fry till slight brown in color. Add Pepper, cumin seeds powder, curry leaves, and green chilies. Fry for 30 sec

 

Add this to Pongal mix well

 

Pongal is ready
