Aval Oats Idli

I used to do the Oats idli using 3 Cups rice and one cup Oats. But it used to be bit sticky so I stopped it for a while. I saw this reciepe @  Kamala’s Corner. It came out pretty well. My kids cannot even notice that it is of Oats till I told them. Now I am sure oats idli will be back on our regular menu

Ingredients:

Parboiled (idli) Rice – 2 cups
Urad dhal – 1 cup

Fenugreek seeds – 1 teaspoon
Oats – 1/2 cup
Aval (Poha) – 1 /2 cup
Salt – 1 teaspoon or as per taste

Method:

Soak rice and urad dhal separately for 5 to 6 hours. Fenugreek seeds can be added along with urad dhal.
Soak oats and aval together half-an-hour to one hour before grinding. (For me I didn’t even soak Oats. Just washed and added to rice while grinding. Add this after Rice is half done)
You can use mixie for grinding. Grind urad dhal and fenugreek to a soft paste. Then grind rice, oats and aval together to a coarse paste.
Mix all the paste together with salt and keep it overnight or atleast 8 hours for fermentation.

Then make idli as usual. Serve with Chutney / Sambar.
