Avarakkai Poriyal

We get Avaraikai only when we go to little India (In Singapore). Last week when I was there I saw some goods ones so I picked up these. It goes very well with any type of rice or even Chapatti

Ingredients:

Flat beans / Avarakkai – 1/2 kg
Mustard seeds – 1/2 teaspoon
Split urad dhal – 1 teaspoon
Curry leaves – 1 string
Oil – 3 teaspoon

Sambar powder – 2 full teaspoon
Roasted Gram Powder – 3 teaspoon
Turmeric powder – a pinch

Method:

Wash the flat beans twice. Remove the edges from both the sides and the fibres (naar in Tamil). Then cut them into small pieces.
Boil the flat beans using just enough water to cook it with salt. You can also microwave it for 4 minutes just by adding salt. Make sure you don’t have any leftover water by cooking it further with the lid open. Keep it aside
Take a frying pan and heat the oil.
Add mustard seeds and urid dal. Let the seeds splutter.
Add curry leaves and fry for 20 sec.
Add cooked flat beans, salt to taste, sambar powder and turmeric powder.
Cook them for 5-7 mins

Add Roasted Gram powder and mix well
Cook it for another 5-7 mins until there is no more moisture left in the avarakkaiThen remove from stove.

Avarakkai Poriyal is ready to serve now.
