Bengal Gram Salad (Kadala Parruppu Sundal- Sour Variety) – FOR VINAYAKAR CHATURTI / VARALAKSHMI POOJA / VARALAKSHMI Nombu

Sundal is easy recipe yet you can do numerous variations in it. It is very healthy. These are not just for festive season, also we can make this for kids as after school snack. My kids enjoy all types of sundal, this one is not an exception
Ingredients

bengal gram Dhal (channa dal): 1 cup
Grated Fresh Coconut: 3 tablespoon (reduce it if you so health concious)
Mustard Seeds: 1/4 teaspoon
Urad Dal : 1 teaspoon
Green Chillies: 4 finely chopped (remove the seed and chop finely)
Curry Leaves: 1 sprig (I forgot to add :-))
Turmeric Powder – 1/8 teaspoon
Salt to taste
Oil – 1 tablespoon

Lemon Juice – 1.5 teaspoon

Method:

1. Wash and soak the dhal for 20 mins

2. Cook dhal with turmeric powder and salt till it is soft. Dhal should not be too soft or loose the shape.I have used the pressure cooker. And cooked till one whistle in low flame. Drain the water and keep it aside. Make sure you don’t keep so much of water while cooking

3. Heat one teaspoon of oil when oil is hot, add the mustard seeds, urad dal and let them splutter.

4. Now add the cooked dal, Lemon Juice, Coconut, chopped green chillies and mix well. Leave it in medium flame till all the moisture evaporates. Turn off and serve hot
