Broad Beans Masala – Butter beans Masala

I got introduced to Broad Beans by my sister. After my 2nd sister got married her MIL used to do it. I don’t get fresh beans in Singapore. I use Canned Beans. I am impressed with the nutrition facts of it when cooked it is high in Iron and protein; with small amounts of fat. It is a good source of cholesterol-lowering fiber. I normally do it as side dish to the rice. 


Ingredients:


Butter beans 1 Can (Drain the water and wash it well)
Onion – 2 (finely chopped)
Tomato – 2 (finely chopped)

Green Chillies – 2 (Slit into 2)
Red Chillies – 1/4 teaspoon
Fennel Seeds – 1 teaspoon
Cumin Seeds – 1 teaspoon
Sambar Powder – 1/4 teaspoon
Curry Leaves – 10 Strings
Coriander leaves – 1 tablespoon finely chopped
Oil – 1 tablespoon
Salt per taste


Method:


Heat the kada and add 1 teaspoon oil
Add Onion and fry till it is transparent. Add tomato and fry till soft and mushy
Let it cool and grind to paste
Add reminder of oil in same kada
Add Fennel seeds and Cumin seeds. When it start to crackle add green chilies and curry leaves fry for 10 sec
Add grinded paste and turmeric powder, curry powder and sambar powder
Fry till raw smell of all the masala goes off
Add salt and broad beans
Mix it well. Let it cook for next 10 mins
Switch it off and garnish with Coriander Leaves.
