My mum used to do this but she does it as a side dish for rice. But till now I didn’t know the other name for it. One of my colleague used to bring for his chapathi. I love it as it is a little spicy and easy to pack as it is a semi dry gravy. Recently my husband wants to have cabbage in his diet more often.. So I wanted to try this for our chapati / roti. This goes well with rice too..
Ingredients
Finely chopped cabbage – 1.5 cups
Potatoes – 2 (medium)
Salt to taste
Oil – 3 teaspoon (Preferably Coconut oil)
Curry leaves – 10
Mustard seeds – 1/2 teaspoon
Urad dhal – 1 teaspoon
Coriander leaves – 1 tablespoon (finely chopped)
To grind to smooth paste
Coconut – 1/4 cup
Pepper corns – 10
Dry red chillies – 4 (adjust to your spice level)
Cumin seeds – 1 teaspoon
Coriander seeds – 1 teaspoon
Method:
Slice the cabbage. Peel the skin of potato and chop finely and leave it in water till you need it. Dry roast Pepper corn, Dry chillies, Cumin seeds, Coriander seeds. Keep it aside. Dry roast Coconut also.
Heat the oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds. Let it pop. Add urad dhal and curry leaves. Fry till dhal is brown.
Add cabbage and potato. Add bit of salt and turmeric powder. And close the lid to let it cook. Add grinded paste. And mix well. Add required water. Cook till desired consistency reached
