Chana Palak (Chickpeas in Spinach gravy curry)

I love Palak. It makes it easy to make good and healthy side dish. Most of the time I do Palak Paneer. Once in a while I do variation to it. I wanted to do palak paneer and Unfortunately realized that I didn’t have Paneer but had cooked chana so decided to do chana palak. Initially my son was not happy but in the end he told it was not bad.. I love it because it is a low calorie food and very tasty too
Ingredients:
Palak – 2 cups (when cut into 1/2 inch pieces)
Chick peas / white Chana dhal – 1 cup cooked
Oil – 2 teaspoon
Onion – 1 (sliced finely)
Garlic – 3 pods (finely chopped)
Tomatoes – 2 (chopped finely)
Green Chillies – 2
Cumin seeds – 1 teaspoon
Garam masala – 1/2 teaspoon
coriander powder – 1/4 teaspoon
Red chilli powder – 1/4 teaspoon
Ginger – 1 inch (slice finely)
Salt to taste
Coriander leaves – 1/4 cup
Oil – 1 teaspoon

Method:
Cook the chana dhal and keep it aside. Heat 1/2 teaspoon of oil and add chopped palak and coriander leaves. Fry till they are cooked. Switch it off and let it cool down. When cool down grind cooked palak and coriander leaves to smooth paste using mixie or blender or food processor.

Heat the kada and add 1 teaspoon oil. Add garlic and ginger and fry till garlic is brown in color.Add onion, green chillies and fry till transparent. Add tomatoes and fry till it is mushy. Add coriander leaves and fry for another 3 mins. Switch it off. Let it cool down. Grind to smooth paste.

Heat the kada again. Add rest of the oil. Add cumin seeds. Let it crackle. Add onion tomato paste. Fry for 2 mins. Add Garam masala, coriander powder and chilli powder. Fry for another 2 mins. Add spinach paste. Add enough water so that you get desired consistency. Let it boil. Add Cooked Channa dhal (chick peas) and cook for another 7-10 mins.

Serve hot with Roti or rice or naan or kulcha or pulka or paratha
