Murukku My sons are never bored. I enjoy experimenting with different Murukku varieties. It’s not like I need an excuse to do it. Whenever I do, it only lasts about 2-3 days. This Diwali, I wanted to try something new. My sons, like any other boy, discovered cheese. I experimented with a small batch of Parmesan cheese.
However, because I was out of Parmesan cheese, I substituted Cheddar cheese in this recipe. My sons enjoyed both versions, but I preferred the one with Parmesan cheese. Please let me know what you think after you try it.
Ingredients
- Idiyappam flour – 2 cups (Store brought)
- Roasted gram dal powder – 1/2 cup
- Salt to taste
- Butter – 2 tablespoons
- Cheese – 1/2 cup
- Red chili powder – 1 tablespoon
- Oil to deep fry
Method
In a bowl take all the ingredients except Oil. Mix well.
Add water little by little and make a smooth dough. In a murukku mold stuff the batter.
Press murukku on a clean kitchen tissue. Keep it aside. Heat the oil in a curved pan. When the oil is hot add pressed murukku one by one. You have to slide each murukku slowly one by one by side of the pan. Make sure you leave enough place for murukku to move around. Cook Murukkus at medium flame till “Shhhh” sound subside. Turn the murukku a few times while cooking
Drain the extra oil and take the murukku out of the oil and leave it on kitchen tissue to drain extra oil
After cool down, you can store it in an airtight container and enjoy
