These days kids have very long day at school and comes home only for dinner. So I try to include as much vegetables as possible. I also try to make couple of dishes for dinner. Now a days kids like tikki / cutlet. I wanted to try it with chick peas. I also had some spinach so decided to combine these to make a tasty and healthy tikki
Ingredients
Potato – 2 to 3 depends on size of it (when mashed you need to hv about 1 cup )
Chick peas – 1 cup (soaked overnight)
Spinach – 1 cup (when chopped)
Onion – 1 (chopped finely)
Garlic – 4 pods (chopped finely)
Ginger – 1 inch (chopped finely)
Oil – 2 teaspoon + Oil to cook tikki
Cumin powder – 1/2 teaspoon
Garam masala – 3/4 teaspoon
Turmeric powder – 1/4 teaspoon
Green chillies – 3-4 (finely chopped)
Red chilli powder – 1/8 teaspoon (adjust to your spice level. If spiciness from green chillies enough skip this)
Salt to taste
Coriander leaves / cilantro – 1 tablespoon (chopped finely)
Method:
Cook the Chick peas and potato. Drain the water and remove the skin of potato. Mash both of them. Keep it aside.
Heat the pan and oil when it is hot add oil. when oil is hot add cumin seeds let it crackle. Add garlic and ginger and fry till it is brown in color. Add onion and fry till transparent. Add spinach and fry till the leaf start to wilt. Add salt, cumin powder, garam masala, turmeric powder. Mix well. Now add mashed potato and chick peas. Cook till all comes together. If needed add water. I have added ~1/4 cup of water. Add required salt and red chilli powder if using mix together. cook for another 3-4 mins. Add coriander leaves and mix well. Switch it off and keep it aside
Make lemon size ball out of chickpeas paste. Placing between palm make flat tikki. Heat the flat pan and when it is hot add flatten tikki and sprinkle oil around it. Cook well. Turn it over and cook again.
When it is done take it out and serve hot
