Coconut Onion Chutney

I used to seldom buy coconut.. But recently after my kids tried out Adai with Coconut chutney they were asking for that combination (they say it is better than having it with Aviyal.. I don’t agree :-)).. However I myself find it more appealing when combining Coconut with onion or urad dhal (have something else to change the too coconut flavour)

Ingredients:

Coconut – 4 tablespoon

Roasted Gram Dhal – 1/2 Tablespoon
Onion – 1 (diced into square pieces)
Red chilli – 4
Tamarind – Small marble ball
Salt As required
Curry leaves – 5-7
Mustard seeds – 1/4 teaspoon
Urad Dhal – 1 teaspoon
Oil- 2 teaspoon

Method:

Heat the kada and add 1 teaspoon of oil
Add red chilli and tamarind and fry for 2 min
Add onion and fry till translucent
Add Roasted Gram dhal and Coconut and fry for 2 mins
Add salt and grind to Chutney. Chutney shouldn’t be so smooth should be little coarse.
Heat Kada and add rest of the oil
When hot add mustard seeds when it start to splutter add Curry leaves and urad dhal
Fry till dhal is brown add this to Chutney and mix it well
