I saw this Corn meal other day when I was doing my weekly shopping. I wanted to try this upma for quite some time however keep postponing because of my 2nd son who doesn’t like Corn. But this week I couldn’t resist my temptation any more. So went ahead to buy it. I had some idli / dosa batter in the fridge and I decided to make it for dinner as I had back up in case if my kids / hubby didn’t really like it
Ingredients
Corn meal / Corn rava – 2 cups
Water – 5 cups
Onion – 1/2 cup (finely chopped)
Salt to taste
Oil – 3 teaspoon
Mustard seeds – 1/4 teaspoon
Urad dhal- 1 teaspoon
Bengal gram dal – 2 teaspoon
Green chillies – 3-4 (slit into 2. Adjust to your spice level)
Curry leaves – 10
Coriander leaves – 2 tablespoons (finely chopped)
Grated Coconut – 3 tablespoon (optional)
Method:
Heat the pan and add oil. Add mustard seeds and let it pop. Add Urad dhal, Bengal gram dhal Fry till it is brown in color. Add green chillies, Curry leaves and onion. Fry till it is slightly brown color
Add water and salt. Let it boil. Add corn meal and mix well. Close the lid and let it cook
Add coconut and mix it. Let it cook for another 3 mins. Add chopped coriander leaves. Mix well
Switch it off and serve hot
