Drumstick Jackfruit seeds gravy – Side dish for Chapathi / roti / idli / dosa / Rice

I love jackfruit seeds. But after moving to Singapore I don’t get it as I have to take it from Jackfruits that I buy. In any given week I buy jackfruit only one batch with 5 pieces so at the most I get only 5 seeds. My mum told me now a days we do get Jackfruit seeds in India. So this time when she visited me I had asked her to bring some jackfruit seeds. Also this dish is one of her specialty. This can be served as side dish to rice also. If  you are serving with Idli or dosa increase water.
Ingredients


Drumstick – 2 pieces (when cut into 2 inch pieces 2 cups)
Jackfruit seeds / Palakottai – 30 to 35
Tomatoes – 1
Garlic – 5-7 pods (chopped finely)
Onion – 1 (chopped finely)
Small onion / shallots – 1.5 cups
Curry leaves – 10
Oil – 1 tablespoon
Sambar powder – 1 teaspoon
Turmeric powder – 1/4 teaspoon
Toor Dal / Thuvar Dhal – 3 tablespoon
Pepper corn – 1 teaspoon
Mustard seeds  – 1/2 teaspoon
Cumin seeds – 1 teaspoon
Urad dhal – 1 teaspoon


Method:

Wash and pressure cook the jackfruit seeds with salt till 2 whistle. Drain the water and peel the skin. slice them into thin long pieces. Keep it aside.

Dry roast Thuvar dhal and pepper corns. let it cool down. Grind to fine powder

let it cool down. Grind to fine powder. Add oil in a pan and When hot add cumin seeds, mustard seeds and let it pop. Add urad dhal and fry till brown in color. Add garlic and fry till slight brown. 

Add onion and fry till transparent. Add turmeric powder and salt. Fry for 1 min. Add tomatoes and mix well. Fry for another 2 mins. 

Add Drumstick and sambar powder mix well. Cook drumstick with lid on

Add required water, Sliced Jackfruits and grinded powder. Mix well. And cook for another 3-4 mins or till desired consistency is reached

Serve hot

    shyoo… I am drooling here… I love love jackfruit seeds so much that I always make it a point to bring some stock when I come back from home… this curry looks so tempting…
