Fenugreek / Methi Leaves Gravy (kootu)

I normally use methi leaves to do the chappathi. My mum use it for all kind of dishes. This time I brought 2 bunches so after doing chappathi I had left with one more. So decided to call my hotline (yes my mum). I did Kootu out of it. It tasted little bit bitter I have added 1/2 teaspoon sugar at the end otherwise it tasted heaven

Ingredients

Methi leaves – 1 bunch
Onion – 1 chopped finely
Garlic – 4 pods chopped finely
Red Chillies – 3

Moong Dhal – 1/2 cup.
Urad dhal – 2 teaspoon
Pepper corns – 7-8
Sugar – 1/2 teaspoon (optional)
Mustard seeds – 1/4 teaspoon
Turmeric powder – 1/4 teaspoon
Oil – 1 teaspoon
Salt as required
Rice flour – 1/2 teaspoon if required ( i didn’t use).

Method:
1. Remove the methi leaves from stem. Just use the leaves. Throw the stem
2. Heat the kada. And add oil. When oil is hot add mustard seeds. When it starts to pop add urad dhal and fry till dhal is brown in color
3. Break the red chillies into one inch pieces and add to the kada. Fry for 5-10 sec
4. Add Onion, garlic, Pepper corns and fry till onion is transparent
5. Wash and drain the water from moong dhal and add to the kada with turmeric powder and 1 cup water and pinch of salt
6. When the Dhal is 3/4 cooked add the methi leaves and cook it by closing the lid. Add sugar at the end and it boil for 2 – 3 more mins
7. Switch it off and serve hot
