I love to try different types of idli esp when my sons were not home for a meal. If they around I will make dosa with the same batter. I wanted to try no rice healthy idli. I have seen moong dal idli in many blogs I wanted to try with whole green gram to enhance its nutritional value. I was not sure about how it will turn out. So I made some backup plan (just in case) but I didn’t have to go back to my just in case plan as idli turn out to be very good
Ingredients:
whole green gram dal – 1 cup
Little Millet (samai) – 1/2 cup
Urad dal – 3/4 cup
Methi seeds – 1 teaspoon
salt to taste
Method:
Wash and soak Whole green gram, millet together for 5-7 hrs
Wash and soak Urad dal
Grind the green gram dal & millet with required water to a little coarse batter. transfer to a broader bowl
Grind urad dal into a smooth batter, Mix in with green gram dal batter. Add salt mix well
Let it ferment overnight or till it is fermented. When you are ready pour it to Idli plate
grease idli plate or using cloth line idli plate with it. Pour idli batter and steam it for 10-12 mins or till an inserted toothpick comes out clean
Once done remove it
Serve it with your favorite chutney

I LOVED this recipe! And it was SO very easy.Make sure you follow the instructions carefully- I think this is key to making it super moist.
