I wanted to do this kebab/ cutlet for quite some time. However, I had this idea to try this kebab/ cutlet with lots of onion because it would taste wonderful. Since my first son is not a big fan of onions, I kept postponing the making of this recipe. Last week he had his tour with his friend so I took the opportunity to try. I didn’t coat this with any flour or breadcrumbs but if you want to add it, you can do so. This is perfect snack / after school snack or tea time snack
Ingredients
Raw banana – 2 (medium)
Channa dal / Split bengal gram dal – 1 cup
Onion – 2 (medium size onion)
Coconut oil – 4 teaspoon (for Masala) + oil needed For Shallow fry
Curry leaves – 10 leaves (chopped finely)
Mint leaves – 1 teaspoon
Coriander leaves – 1 tablespoon
Besan flour / Channa dal powder – 3 teaspoon (heaped)
Salt to taste
Cumin seeds – 1 teaspoon
Coriander powder – 1 teaspoon
Turmeric powder – 1/4 teaspoon
Garam masala – 1/2 teaspoon
Red chili powder – 1/2 to 1 teaspoon
Garlic – 1 teaspoon (chopped)
Method:
Wash and soak channa dal for 1 hour and cook it with very little water until one whistle.
When it is cooled down, grind the cooked dal coarsely.
Cook raw banana with salt until you can mash it. I have done it in a pressure cooker until two whistles.
When cooled down, remove the skin. Mash it and keep it aside.
Heat oil and add cumin seeds. Let it crackle. Add curry leaves, garlic, and onion and fry until transparent. Keep this aside. Add besan flour and fry for a minute on low flame. Mix well.
Add red chili powder, garam masala, coriander powder and mint leaves. If oil is not enough, add more oil. Fry for 2 minutes. Add mashed Banana and mix well.
Add cooked dal and mix it again. Cook for 2 minutes. Add coriander leaves and mix well again.
Switch it off. Let it cool down. Once it is okay to handle, knead it for a minute. Make a lemon size ball.
Flatten it. Heat oil for shallow fry and place tikkis and cook till browned
Turn it over and cook again. Once all sides are cooked, remove it from pan
Serve hot!
