Karamani Sundal – Navratri Recipe

This is the festival season. This sundal is another simple, tasty, and healthy naivedyam recipe. you don’t need a lot of time to soak karamani if you soak in the morning at 6 am you can cook it by 11 or 12 also all you need is pressure cook it for 1 whistle. If you forgot to soak just cook for 3 whistles. This is perfect for instant sundal. This is a perfect recipe for anyone who just started cooking or wants to learn to make healthy snacks/ starters. Ingredients

Karamani / Black eye pea / cowpea – 1 cup
Red Chillies – 2
Curry leaves – few
Coconut gratings – 1 tablespoon
Oil – 1 teaspoon
Mustard – 1/2 teaspoon
Urad dal  – 1 tablespoon
cumin seeds – 1/2 teaspoon
Asafoetida/ hing – a pinch
Salt to taste



Method: 

Soak karamani in water for 2-3 hrs. Wash and drain the water. Pressure cook along with a pinch of salt for one to two whistles. 

Do not overcook. Drain the excess water and keep aside. 

In a Kadai put the oil and when it is hot add mustard, cumin seeds. When it pops up, add chilies, urad dal, curry leaves. Let it brown. Add Asafoetida. Add in Cooked pea and mix well. 

Add coconut gratings. mix well. 
Serve hot
