Soya chunks is good source of protein. Keerai has it’s own vitamins and minerals. Combining these two provides well balanced side dish. Other day I had some soaked Soya which was in excess and wondering what to do. I was talking to my helper and said to her I don’t know what to do with as the qty is less so cannot make any dish by itself also we have also planned our meal so don’t want to change.. My son came over and asked me whether I have seen recipe which combines keerai and Soya. I told him no he then recommended this combination and said you have new dish for the blog!
Ingredients:
Keerai – 1 Cup finely chopped
Soya Chunks – 1/2 Cup
Moong Dhal – 1/2 Cup
Turmeric Powder – 1/4 teaspoon
Onion -1 finely chopped
Tomato – 1 finely chopped
Pepper – 1/2 teaspoon
Cumin seeds – 1/2 teaspoon
Salt per taste
Mustard seeds – 1/4 teaspoon
Urad dhal – 1 teaspoon
Oil – 2 teaspoon
Note: instead of Pepper / Cumin seeds if you prefer to use Rasam powder go ahead to to use it. I did use Rasam Powder 1 teaspoon instead of pepper and cumin seeds powder
Method:
Boil the soya Chunks with enough water. Drain and wash it with cold water. Again boil it with enough water and salt. Drain water and keep aside. If the Soy chunks are bigger chop it into smaller pieces
Powder Pepper and Cumin seeds in the mixie and keep it (If you are using rasam powder skip this)aside. Since I have ued Rasam Powder I didn’t hv pic for this step 🙂
Heat the kada and oil when oil is hot ad mustard seeds when it start to pop add urad dhal and fry till it is brown in color. Add Onion and fry till it is slightly brown in color. Add chopped tomato and fry till it is mushy
Add chopped keera. Let it get cooked it will take about 5-7 mins.
Add Cooked Soya, rasam powder (or Pepper and cumin powders) and salt and mix well. Let it cook for another 10-12 mins. If your kootu is watery add mix rice flour with water and add to kootu and let it boil for another 2-4 mins
Serve hot with rice or chapathi
