Kuthiravali Pualo – barnyard millet Pulao – barnyard millet Pulav – Millet Recipes – Simple and healthy Dinner or lunch recipes

I love millet based recipe.. I always feel it keeps you full for long (may be it is just a feeling). This is one of the easiest recipe with millet. It is perfect for fasting. I have added onion to the Pulao but you can skip it if you are doing for fasting. This is a healthy meal and well balanced meal too. It is called Jhangora in Hindi / Odalu in Telugu / Oodalu in Kannada. This recipe is so simple even bachelors can do it 
Ingredients
barnyard millet/ Kuthiraivali – 1 cup
Water – 4 cups
Onion – 1 ( optional. chopped finely)
Turmeric powder – 1/4 teaspoon
Pepper powder – 1 teaspoon
Curry leaves – 10
Salt to taste
Cloves – 2
Cinnamon – 1/2 Inch
cardamom – 2
Bay leaves – 1
Star masala – 1
Potato – 1 medium (peel and cubed into 1/4 inch cubes)
Oil – 2 teaspoon
Peanut powder – 1/4 cup
Lemon Juice – 2 teaspoon (reduce it if you want it milder taste)
Coriander leaves – 1 tablespoon (finely chopped)
Cashewnuts – 1 teaspoon for garnishing



Method:


Wash and soak Barnyard millet for 30 mins. Drain it and keep it aside Heat the oil in a pan. Add Cinnamon, cloves, cardamom, Star masala, bay leaves. Fry till nice aroma released. Add onion, Curry leaves and fry till transparent. 

Add Potatoes and fry for 1 min. Add turmeric powder, pepper powder, Salt and mix well. 

Add water and let it boil add soaked Millet and mix well. 

Close the lid to get it cooked. Once cooked add peanut powder and lemon juice. Mix well. Cook for another min. Switch it off. 

Add coriander leaves and cashew nuts. 

Serve hot
