My mum’s little garden has a couple of mango trees, Imam pasand and banganapalli. It grows by itself (from the thrown seeds). Last year we had a good collection from it.. My mum said she didn’t buy any mango and that what she got from the tree was good enough. This year I am waiting for it. Last week I had some visitors from India. She sent some mangoes. She told me she got some new plants too. And this one started giving mangoes this year. Initially she thought it was a fruit tree too but raw mango was a little bit sour. But to me it is not sour enough for pickle or sambar. I tried this chutney it came out pretty good
Ingredients:
Coconut – 1 cup
Raw mango – 1 cup (reduce if your mango is sour)
green chilies – 4-6
Shallots / small onion – 4
Garlic – 2 pods
Salt to taste
To temper:
Oil- 2 teaspoons
Mustard seeds- 1/2 teaspoon
Urad dhal- 1/2 teaspoon
Dry red chili-3
Method:
Wash and peel the mango skin. Grate it. Add rest of the ingredients to blender or mixie or food processor. Grind it to little coarse paste with required salt. I prefer this to be a little thicker. But you can add water to your taste.
Heat oil in a pan adds mustard seeds. Let it pop. Add urad dhal, curry leaves, red chili and fry till dhals are brown in color. Add this to the chutney.
