Ingredients:
Drumstick (Murungaikai) – 1
Jackfruit seeds – 5 to 6
Raw Mango – 1 (small size)
Tomato -1
Thuvar dhal – 1 cup
Sambar powder – 1 tablespoon
Turmeric powder – ¼ teaspoon
Salt – 1 teaspoon
2 teaspoon oil
Half teaspoon mustard
A pinch of asafetida
Few curry leaves
Sambar onion – 4 or 5 cut length wise
Green chillies – 2 slit lengthwise
I didn’t add Tamarind because the mango & tomato sourness is good enough for me. If you want you can add 2 tablespoon tamarind juice
Method:
Wash thuvar dhal and add two cups of water along with a pinch of turmeric powder and pressure cook till soft.
Cut tomato into medium size pieces.
Cut jackfruit seeds into two and remove the white skin. Add two cups of water and cook till it is soft.
Cut drumstick into 2 to 3 inch pieces. Cut mango along with the nutshell. If you use big mango, then just cut a two to three big pieces.
Put drumstick into a vessel. Add cooked jackfruit seeds and add water just to cover the vegetables.
Add tomato pieces, salt, sambar powder, turmeric powder and cook on medium flame for five to six minutes. Then add mango pieces and cook till mango is soft. Mango cooks fast and you have to add after the drumstick is cooked. Now add tamarind juice and allow to boil. Then add the cooked thuvar dhal mashed well.
In a kadai put the oil and when it is hot add the mustard. When it pops up, add asafotida, cut onions, green chillies and curry leaves and fry for a while. Add this to the sambar. Mix well. Remove from stove.
