Moong Dhal Sweet (Pasi Paruppu Puttu)

Normally my mum does Arisi puttu. I love it from my childhood days. This time when I was in India I told my mum I want to try different puttu (of course for the blog). My Mum had a cook and she recommended Moong dhal puttu. I was so happy to try it because it is not not rice base more of dhal base. So it is protein rich dish.

Ingredient:

Split green gram dhal (Moong dhal)-  1 cup,
jaggary – 1 to 3 tablespoon (Powdered. I have used 1.5 tablespoon),
Grated coconut – 1 tablespoon (Optional. I haven’t used it)
cardamom powder –  1 teaspoon
Cashew Nuts – 1 tablespoon
Ghee – 1/2 teaspoon

Method:
Fry Cashew nuts till brown in the ghee and keep it aside
Clean and soak moong dhal for 1 hour when soaked well drain the water and grind it to a fine paste use little amount of water while grinding.

Cook the mixture in idly vessels and steam well and remove  from fire and make it coarse when it is hot.
Add water to jaggery and heat it when jaggery dissolved nicely remove from fire & strain to remove the impurities. Add cardamom powder to filtered jaggery syrup and boil it for 2 mins.

Add this to the coarsely powdered dhal mixture and mix well. Add grated coconut, fried cashew nuts to the mixture and mix well and serve hot.
