Moongil rice appam – Bamboo Rice Appam – Healthy Breakfast recipe – Healthy Dinner recipe – dosa recipes

These days all the good old items like Millets, Moongil rice are becoming more common in India. Every time I go to India I find few new items with millets. Whenever I find something new, I get it sometimes. Some times the Ingredients I buy become expired or old. I need to remember new things so that it doesn’t go wasted. These days when I buy something new I would try it out immediately. This time I brought Moongil rice. I tried Payasam. After that I had left over rice. So I wanted to try out either dosa or appam. My kids asked for appam. It came out well. Haivng healthy food doesn’t have to be boring
Ingredients:


Moongil rice / Bamboo rice – 1 cup
Idli rice – 1.5 cup
Poha / Aval – 1 cup
Urad dhal – 1/4 cup
Fenugreek seeds – 1/4 teaspoon
Salt to taste
Coconut milk – 1.5 cup to 2 cups
Appa Soda or baking soda – 1/4 teaspoon
Sugar – 1 teaspoon
Oil for cooking



Method:


Wash Bamboo rice / Moongil rice and soak it for 4-6 hrs. Wash Idli rice, Urad dhal, fenugreek rice and soak it for 2 hrs. Add aval / Poha and soak it for 1 more hr. Grind Moongil rice first. 

When it is done add rest of soaked ingredients. Grind it to Dosa batter consistency. Add water in between. Add salt and grind for 30 sec.

Remove it and let it ferment it overnight or for 6 hrs. Add coconut milk, Sugar and soda. 

Mix well. Heat appam pan and pour a laddle full of dough. Spread it by rotating it. 

Close it with the lid till it is cooked. Remove it and serve with your favourite side dish

    Haven't tasted Moongiarisi, but the appam looks truly tempting..so perfectly prepared appam with soft center & crispy edges! Nice !!
