Naan – How to make Naan – Naan without yeast – Butter naan recipe

My kids are very fond of dishes with Maida / All purpose flour. I normally make parrota or Puri.. I seldom do Naan at home. Even though plain flour is not so healthy I have to give in to kids request once in a while. Whenever we dine out my kids always order garlic or butter naan. I prefer to do Naan without yeast. I have tried both with yeast and without yeast. For this post I have decided to do without yeast..
Ingredients:

All purpose flour – 2 cups
Yogurt – 1/2 cup
Warm milk – 1/2 cup
Sugar – 1/2 teaspoon
Melted butter or ghee – 3 tablespoon
Salt to taste
baking soda – 1/2 teaspoon
baking powder – 1/2 teaspoon

Method:

Shift maida with baking soda, baking powder and salt for few times. Take the flour in broader bowl and make a dent in the middle. Add Yogurt, warm milk, sugar in the dent. Now using your fingers bring together all the ingredients and make it soft dough. No need to knead so hard. Leave it for 3-4 hours. You can leave it for entire night. When you ready to make naan if the dough is sticky apply oil in your hands and knead gently.

Take about lemon size ball (bigger than chapatht / chapatti) and roll into round chapatti. now pull the ends to get the naan shape. Heat the flat pan / tawa with handle. Apply water on one side of the Naan by wetting your hands. When the Pan is hot put Naan on the tawa with watered side touching the pan. Close the pan with lid and cook for 45 sec in medium flame.

When you remove the lid you can see bubbles on the Naan. Now turn pan using handle so that top side of naan can be cooked directly on the flame. Cook till nice brown spot appears. Remove it from the pan and apply butter on the top

Serve hot with your favourite side dish
