Osmania cookies recipe – Indian bakery style cookies for Tea By Veena Theagarajan

I got introduced to Irani tea last year during my trip to India. I was told I should have with cookies. I was so hesitant as I am not a sweet tooth person. Worried about sweetness I told them I will just have tea. Knowing me they told me these Osmania cookies are not very sweet; on the contrary, they are more like salt cookies. So I decided to give it a try. After that every trip to India it is a must to have Irani chai with Cookies at least once. I couldn’t resist buying back home a few packs of cookies. Everyone at home loved it. So looked around for a recipe. I saw this at Cookingshooking. I decided to try this festive season!
Ingredients:

All-purpose flour – 1 cup (130g)
Butter – 100g
Milk Powder – 1.5 tablespoon
Soy Flour – 1/2 tablespoon

baking powder – 1 teaspoon
Salt – 1/2 teaspoon
Sugar – 50g
Milk – to brush on biscuits

Method:

Take Butter from the fridge and slice it. Use your finger to make smooth paste.

Add flour little by little and incorporate into butter. Add Milk powder, baking powder, soya flour and salt. Knead it well

Add sugar and knead again. Keep it aside for 15 mins

Once ready roll this into a little thick disc. Using a round cutter (I didn’t have so I have used a star) cut it into a round shape.

Arrange it in a baking tray. Brush cookies with milk. Preheat oven for 180 degrees C. Bake the cookies for 12-14 mins or till it is done.

Take it out and let it cool down for 1 hr
It is ready! You can enjoy them with tea or eat them alone!
